Take the Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 11.02.17

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, I’ve tried something totally new. As you can imagine, after all this time, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to think up new questions. So I had a fun idea: I took last week’s trivia challenge and left all the multiple choices the same; but I came up with new questions to go with them. So, we’ve got 20 new questions about fish species–their native ranges, their Latin names, and other oddities.

The last quiz was, as expected, a difficult one, since it required quite a bit of geographic knowledge. However, one person–the polymathic Stephen Fitch–got ’em all right. The next highest score was a 90%, achieved by Jeremiah Bakk, who wrote, “Disclaimer: I travel the US for work and have made it a goal to catch the state fish of each of the states I visit, so only had to guess on a few.” The most common score dropped further, to a 45%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive a a copy of Nick Curcione’s new Saltwater Edge: Tips and Tactics for Saltwater Fly Fishing. In this book, Curcione covers his entire saltwater system (knots, rigging, tackle, approach) with detailed information on shooting heads, sinking lines, and two-handed rods for the salt, which have not been covered thoroughly in any other book.
