Five-year-old Gage Benfield’s steely focus on the fishing rod in his hand and the pond in front of him at Dallas Park was shaken Saturday by a tale of fishing terror. His great-grandmother, Joann Benfield of Gastonia, was relaying a story from years ago of a little boy who cast his line without paying attention to his sister’s proximity nearby.
