The Wall Street Journal: Oil rig explodes near New Orleans; multiple injuries reported

An oil-drilling structure exploded in Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans, causing multiple injuries, a Louisiana police dispatcher said Sunday night.

Emergency responders on boats were on the scene and the injured were being taken to hospitals, the radio dispatcher for the Kenner Police Department said. She didn’t have information on the extent of their injuries.

The Associated Press reported at least six people were hurt, some seriously, and more injuries were expected. Social media pages posted what appeared to be home videos from people nearby that showed footage of the structure as it burned on the lake.
