Private-equity firm Colony Capital could buy Weinstein Co. after its brand name was tarnished in recent weeks, as dozens of women accused its former co-chairman Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and harassment.

The Weinstein Co. said Monday it has entered into an agreement with Colony Capital, the private-equity arm of investment firm Colony NorthStar Inc.

to provide an immediate infusion of cash. Financial terms of the investment weren’t immediately disclosed.

The two companies have also started negotiating a potential sale of “all or a significant portion” of the Weinstein Co.’s assets, the Weinstein Co. said.

The company fired Weinstein Oct. 8 as reports accusing him of repeated sexual assault over the course of many years continued to emerge. Since then, the company has been widely expected to sell itself or shut down.
