A man in Ireland has died in a chainsaw accident in the aftermath of Hurricane Ophelia.

He was seriously injured by the chainsaw while clearing away a fallen tree in Ballybrado in Cahir, a town in southern Ireland, around 12.30 p.m. on Monday.

The unnamed man, who was in his early 30s, died shortly after, a spokeswoman for the Irish police told Business Insider.

The man was Ophelia’s second victim. Earlier on Monday, a woman in her 50s died after a tree fell on her car in the southeastern Irish county of Waterford, Reuters reported.

The storm, which has been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone, reached Ireland on Monday morning. It is expected to move across the Irish Sea on to Scotland and northern England, according to the National Hurricane Center’s forecast. Winds of 118mph have been recorded in Ireland.

The police spokeswoman said: "Gardaí continue to advise all persons to stay indoors and not to venture out. Do not put your life or the lives of the Emergency Services at risk by travelling unless absolutely necessary."
